SUPERVISORS HELD AT SMITHFIELD STATION ON TUESDAY, THE THIRTIETH DAY
OF OCTOBER IN THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHTEEN

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Jefferson called the special called meeting of the Board of Supervisors
to order at 3:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussion, consideration, or interviews of
prospective candidates for employment for the position of County Attorney.
A closed meeting was called pursuant to Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Code of
Virginia concerning discussion, consideration, or interviews of prospective
candidates for employment for the position of County Attorney.
Upon motion of Supervisor Acree, the Board entered the closed meeting for the
reasons stated which was adopted unanimously (5-0).
Upon motion of Supervisor McCarty, the Board reconvened into open meeting,
which was adopted unanimously (5-0).
The Board was reminded that in accordance with Section 2-10(G) of the Board's
Rules & Procedure, all those who participated in the closed meeting are reminded
that all matters discussed in closed meeting are to remain confidential, as provided
under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and that such matters as were
discussed in closed meeting should not be acted upon or discussed in public by any
participant unless and until a public, formal action of the Board of Supervisors is
taken on that particular subject matter.
Upon motion of Supervisor Acree, the following Resolution was adopted:
CERTIFICATION OF CLOSED MEETING
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has convened a closed meeting on this date
pursuant to an affirmative recorded vote and in accordance with the provisions of
the Virginia Freedom of Information Act; and,
WHEREAS, Section 2.2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia requires a certification by
this Board of Supervisors that such closed meeting was conducted in conformity
with Virginia law;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby certifies
that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters
lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed
in the closed meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such
public business matters as were identified in the motion convening the closed
meeting were heard, discussed or considered by the Board of Supervisors.
